The John D. Walsh Company, Inc.

The John D. Walsh Company was founded in February 1942, by its namesake, John D. Walsh. The company's roots were as an agent and broker, working worldwide with various producers of fragrance and flavor raw materials. The original home of The John D. Walsh Company was at 32 Broadway in lower Manhattan, just steps from Wall Street and the New York Stock Exchange.

In 1953, after the untimely passing of John D. Walsh, Raymond A. Lermond joined and subsequently purchased the company from Walsh's widow, Theodora. Later in 1953, the company incorporated. Through the 1950's and 1960's Raymond grew the business. In 1970, after graduating from college, Raymond's son, Gregory S. Lermond joined the company. In 1976, Raymond and Gregory decided to move the business out of Manhattan to its new home in Glen Rock, NJ. After a few years, in 1978, Raymond and Gregory invited Louis V. Serafini to join them. The already growing company realized the need to stock some of the materials they brokered as inventory. It was at 65 Glen Avenue in Glen Rock, NJ that The John D. Walsh Company, Inc. had its first warehouse - a two car garage - and began distributing the raw materials that it had long brokered.

Continued growth over the years necessitated another move. In 1992, the decision was made to purchase a larger facility at 235 Margaret King Avenue in Ringwood, NJ. Through the 1990's the company became more involved in the distribution of fragrance and flavor raw materials and expanded the line of products that it stocked. As the company continued to succeed, the number of employees continued to grow. In 2002, Louis' son Peter Serafini joined the company.

In the spring of 2004, construction began on a new warehouse and distribution center at 25 Executive Parkway in Ringwood, NJ. On June 13, 2005, The John D. Walsh Company, Inc. officially opened the doors of its new building and added a combined 30,000 square feet of office and warehouse space to our facilities. While the new building is our current home, our 235 Margaret King Avenue location continues to be used for distribution of essential oils and aroma chemicals.

Nearly six decades after Raymond A. Lermond purchased the company, his granddaughters, Erica M. Lermond and Tara M. Lermond joined in 2009. In keeping with the true spirit of a family business, the Lermonds and the Serafinis continue to hold strong to the core values that got us here. Today, more than ever, The John D. Walsh Company, Inc. is poised to succeed.
